Real Madrid line up Alphonso Davies alternative at left back
Real Madrid have identified an alternative to Alphonso Davies as their new left back, according to reports, with Juventus’s Andrea Cambiaso now revealed to be on los Blancos’ shopping list.
Davies has cast doubt on links to Madrid with recent comments indicating that he remains happy at Bayern Munich although no extension to his current contract has yet been agreed.
The Canadian is out of contract in 2025 and his demands to renew in Bavaria have not yet been met as he seeks to be placed among the club’s top earners.
That impasse led to speculation that the 23-year-old could be on the move this summer and Bayern bosses seek to avoid losing the Champions League winner on a free.
But quotes in recent days have suggested that Davies is still happy with life at the Bundesliga record champions.
"I feel very comfortable here at Bayern,” he told Kicker. I'm playing in an incredible team, for one of the absolute top clubs in Europe.”
Madrid seek Davies alternative
Doubts may well be gathering at Santiago Bernabeu over whether Davies will join as an upgrade on Ferland Mendy, and, as such, it has been reported that Real Madrid have begun to look elsewhere.
The Corriere dello Sport is reporting that Real are interested in Andrea Cambiaso, the versatile Juventus star who has exploded onto the Serie A scene this season.
Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, and his son, Davide, are thought to be the masterminds behind the move for the 23-year-old, who has featured prominently in Max Allegri’s preferred XI this term.
He has featured wide right and wide left in Allegri’s 3-5-2 system and is a player with fine attacking instincts.
Cambiaso has got a contract in Turin until 2027 and as a result he would command a transfer fee of between €40 million and €50 million, according to the Italian publication.
It promises to be a summer of renewal at the Bernabeu with the club also keen on taking Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain in a high-profile free transfer.
