The powers that be at Bayern Munich are split on Alphonso Davies, according to German media.

The Canadian remains the subject of a drawn-out transfer saga involving the Bundesliga giants and Real Madrid. Los Blancos have been courting the left-back since late last year as he will be out of contract in 2025.

Bayern want to keep Davies around, but not at any price. Should they fail to agree fresh terms with him, they will put him on the market this summer. Real Madrid, on the other hand, are not willing to move for the 23-year-old at any price.

In recent months, the relationship between Davies and Bayern had grown frosty after the Bavarians issued an ultimatum to force him into a quick decision. That deadline has long since passed, but the appointment of Vincent Kompany as new head coach has led to some reconciliation between the club and the player.

Bayern's offer revealed as Hoeneß unconvinced

The main issue in the talks between Davies and Bayern had been over his salary. The Canadian was reportedly asking for €20 million per season, while Bayern were only prepared to offer something in the region of €13m.

Now, tz reports that Bayern's improved offer actually includes bonus payments of up to €4m, so the discrepancy between Davies' expectations and the club's bid isn't as big as initially suspected.

However, an entirely new issue has seemingly appeared. According to the same outlet, honorary president Uli Hoeneß, whose opinion still carries weight at Bayern, is not convinced that Davies is worth the money.

In fact, the 72-year-old is said to be disappointed with the player's poor form and lack of development over the past season. Director Max Eberl, meanwhile, is pushing to secure Davies' signature.

Following Real Madrid's triumph in the Champions League and the official announcement of the signing of Kylian Mbappe, they launched a new offensive for Davies with fresh contacts taking place. It seems we still have not heard the last of this saga.
