Williams has been Barca’s top target since his immense 2023/24 campaign and his stunning form at Euro 2024.

However, the Blugrana's well-documented financial problems appear to be preventing them from completing a deal.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has previously denied claims that the club are unable to sign Williams but Fort is not buying that.

"I wish we could sign Nico Williams as it is what we need," he told The Athletic. "The president [Joan Laporta] has said it is possible, but that is not true.

"Today, it cannot be done. We hope it will be possible tomorrow, or the following day. But today, it is not."

Barcelona's Nico Williams alternative

Barcelona have officially agreed personal terms with RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dani Olmo, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Spain international has emerged as the Blaugrana’s first-choice alternative to Williams, who will remain at Athletic Club until at least 2025.

Hansi Flick’s side have moved swiftly in their pursuit of Olmo and now personal terms have been reached, according to Romano.

The 26-year-old has reportedly accepted a contract offer until 2030, and Barca must now agree a fee with RB Leipzig.

Romano has revealed that Barcelona’s latest bid is a guaranteed fee of €55 million, plus €4m in “easy add-ons” and €3m in “difficult add-ons.”
