Barcelona are 'optimistic' about signing Federico Chiesa despite being unable to register Dani Olmo.

The Blaugrana's financial mess is, contrary to the official club line, far from resolved. New/old Man City star Ilkay Gundogan revealed as much when he announced his departure to Barcelona fans, stating that he will be 'less sad' about leaving if his exit helps the club financially.

The Catalans pushed the German out of the club and even allowed him to leave for free in order to free up space for LaLiga's Financial Fair Play regulations. So far, however, it has not had the desired effect as superstar signing Dani Olmo remains unregistered.

After missing out on Barcelona's LaLiga opener last week - ostensibly for fitness reasons - the Spaniard has been included in the squad for the weekend's big clash with Athletic Club. However, as things stand, he will not be allowed to play.

Despite this, Barcelona are looking to complete their next big signing.

Barca close in on Chiesa

On Friday, Spanish media reported that Barcelona had agreed personal terms with Federico Chiesa and this has now been corroborated by Di Marzio. There is a verbal agreement for the move between the club and the player's camp.

Now, Barcelona need to strike a deal with Juventus, who are keen to offload the European champion. It has been stated that Chiesa could be available for as little as €15 million.

Still, the Italian would surely command a sizeable wage, which casts doubt on Barcelona's ability to eventually register him. Nevertheless, the Blaugrana are said to be 'optimistic' about their chances of landing the winger after missing out on top target Nico Williams.

It remains to be seen whether the impending departures of Vitor Roque, Clement Lenglet (both on loan) and Mika Faye (permanently to Stade Rennais) will be enough to allow Barcelona to register Olmo and, if they manage to sign him, Chiesa.
