Barcelona have officially completed the signing of Dani Olmo, with the Spaniard signing a six-year contract at Camp Nou.

The prodigal son has returned. Barcelona have announced that erstwhile La Masia prospect Dani Olmo has re-joined the club after a ten-year absence that saw him play in Croatia and Germany.

The 26-year-old had left Catalunya as a teenager, feeling that his path to the first team was blocked. After a very successful time at Dinamo Zagreb, he joined RB Leipzig and established himself as perhaps one of the more underrated players in Europe's elite leagues.

The Spaniard starred for his country during their triumphant Euro 2024 campaign and he has now left Leipzig to join Barcelona in a €62 million deal, though it is reportedly difficult for him to reach all of his bonuses, so the Blaugrana will likely have to pay slightly less than €60m.

Olmo returns

The idea to eventually return to Barcelona never left Olmo, with the player keen to eventually show that the Catalans were wrong not to bet on him as a youngster.

So, when the Blaugrana expressed an interest earlier this summer, it was clear that he wanted to take the chance, having already previously flirted with a comeback.

In fact, it was said that he insisted on a €60m release clause when he negotiated a new contract with Leipzig last year to allow him to leave the club eventually.

His clause expired on July 20, forcing Barcelona to negotiate formally with Leipzig, who did not want to stand in the player's way if a fee in that €60m ballpark came their way.

After rejecting an initial bid, Barca sporting director Deco personally travelled to Saxony to seal the deal, with Olmo having become his top target following Nico Williams' decision to remain at Athletic Club.
