After missing out on top target Nico Williams, the Blaugrana have had to focus on different targets, with former La Masia graduate Olmo quickly emerging as the favourite.

The RB Leipzig man starred at Euro 2024 after coming into Spain's side following an injury to Pedri and was always bound to leave Saxony this summer. Previously, Olmo had a €60 million release clause, but it expired on July 20.

Nevertheless, Leipzig always made it clear that they would not stand in Olmo's way should he express a desire to depart and they were more than willing to negotiate after landing the coup of re-signing Xavi Simons for another season.

Now, Fabrizio Romano reports that an agreement for the transfer of Olmo has been reached.

Olmo Barca-bound

Leipzig were demanding a fee in the same ballpark as Olmo's expired release clause and rejected an opening bid from Barcelona, prompting sporting director Deco to personally fly to Germany to get the deal done.

After a lengthy meeting in Leipzig, an agreement has now been struck. According to Romano, Barcelona will pay €55m upfront and €7m in potential add-ons, taking the deal to €62m.

Olmo is keen on returning to Barcelona and has agreed a six-year deal until 2030. He previously departed the Catalans as a teenager after feeling that his pathway to the first team was blocked.

However, there had always been a desire to eventually come back and prove himself and that is why he reportedly insisted on including a release clause when he penned a fresh contract with Leipzig last year. Now, he is on the verge of getting his wish.
