Barcelona will pay €55 million upfront and €7m in potential add-ons, taking the deal to €62m.

Olmo, 26, has agreed a six-year deal until 2030 in order to return to the club he left as a teenager after feeling that his pathway to the first team was blocked.

Barcelona officials met Leipzig chiefs on Tuesday in Germany in an attempt to close a transfer for Euro 2024 star.

The meetings went well and now a transfer is set to become official.

Williams had seemed likely to join Barcelona but according to multiple reports has decided to stay with Athletic Bilbao.

Instead, Barcelona turned to Williams’ Spain teammate Olmo, who also had interest from the Premier League.

Olmo at Euro 2024

The attacking midfielder was one of the most impressive performers at Euro 2024 and the tournament in Germany once again showed that the Spaniard is one of Europe's most underrated players.

Olmo was not slated to start for Spain and only came into the team following Pedri's injury.

He ultimately finished the Euros as joint-top scorer as Spain won the Euros with seven wins out of seven.

Olmo had already been open to a departure from Leipzig last summer, but the Red Bulls, at the time on the verge of losing several key players, managed to get him to extend his deal and stay for one more season.

This summer, Leipzig did not stand in his way.

Olmo grew up in the Barcelona youth system from 2007 to 2014 before moving to Dinamo Zagreb as a 16-year-old.

He scored 34 goals in 124 games before moving to RB Leipzig in 2020.

At Leipzig he scored 29 goals in 148 games, while he has 11 goals in 39 games for the Spain national team.

Olmo won Euro 2024 and the 2022-23 Nations League with Spain.
