Barcelona have released their new away kit for the season - and it's not a bargain by any stretch of the imagination.

The Blaugrana's financial problems have been well documented. Despite president Joan Laporta's assertions to the contrary, Barcelona are still mired in economic difficulties.

While the official club line is that the days of pinching pennies are over, the Catalans' actions speak a different language. Whether it's activating 'levers,' pushing out star players like Ilkay Gundogan or selling off grass and seats from the Camp Nou, it is clear that Barcelona are still struggling to balance the books.

This was again blatantly evident on the first two matchdays of the new campaign when marquee signing Dani Olmo was not eligible to feature due to the club's inability to officially register him with LaLiga. The problem did eventually get fixed, but they are not out of the woods yet.

Now, Barcelona have dropped their new away kit and set a hefty price in a bid to raise more funds.

'Most expensive kit in the world'

According to Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo, the new black away strip is the most expensive jersey in world football right now. Fans have to shell out as much as €184.99 if they want to own an authentic Nike kit with all of the official branding and flocking.

Even the 'basic' version of the shirt still clocks in at a whopping €114.99. The kit is supposed to celebrate the club's 125th anniversary, though given its price, clearly not everyone will be able to afford it - despite Barcelona's 'more than a club' motto.

It is the fourth time in Barcelona's history that a black kit will be worn. The shirt is described by the club as being "a look into the kits of the future, mixing iconic Barça stripes and a black background, allowing them to shine." If the kits of the future will all be this pricey, we will probably stay in the past.
