Liverpool on alert as Real Madrid take HUGE step to Alexander-Arnold transfer

Real Madrid have made Trent Alexander-Arnold a ‘priority target’ as they aim to bring the Liverpool star to Spain in a sensational transfer.

Alexander-Arnold is in the final year of his contract at Anfield and has so far resisted any attempts to tie him down to an extension, with the 26-year-old still assessing Liverpool’s pedigree for titles under new manager Arne Slot.

The right-back is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January and leave Liverpool next summer on a free – something which Real are hoping to convince him to do.

Real are looking to step up their chase for a right-back after captain Dani Carvajal suffered an ACL injury this month, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

However, The Athletic have stated that a move for Alexander-Arnold is only feasible on a free and not in January despite Carvajal’s injury, with Liverpool unlikely to sanction an exit for a key player mid-season regardless.

Alexander-Arnold is Real’s preferred option but the La Liga giants are also considering Tottenham’s Pedro Porro as well as Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen and Sevilla youngster Juanlu.

Alexander-Arnold keen to win trophies

Alexander-Arnold reaffirmed his priority for winning trophies during the international break, telling ITV: “I’ve entered the prime of my career right now and I don’t want to be the player who only won trophies when he was young.”

The Liverpool academy graduate had previously made a similar comment earlier this season, insisting he was highly-motivated by trophies and refusing to commit his future to the Reds past this season.

Liverpool are still hopeful of renewing Alexander-Arnold’s deal but Real are desperate to strengthen their defence after also seeing delays in David Alaba’s return from his ACL injury.

Los Blancos could make their first January signing in six years to bring in a defender, with Castello Lukeba, Aymeric Laporte and Brazilian wonderkid Vitor Reis being considered.
