Barcelona plot STUNNING free agent signing from Liverpool
Barcelona are planning a stunning free transfer to get a world-class superstar from Liverpool.
Mohamed Salah is in the last year of his contract with Liverpool, and with no concrete news about a renewal, other clubs are beginning to circle.
Barcelona are one such club, and TEAMtalk report that the Blaugrana are looking to make the free transfer of Salah a priority in summer 2025 when the current season ends.
According to TEAMtalk, the alleged terms of the deal are that Salah is after around €15m gross salary (that is, salary before tax) a year.
This is less than his current wages at Liverpool, where he is currently earning approximately €21.6m gross salary a year.
So either Salah is prepared to sacrifice some money to play for Barcelona, understandable given their current financial situation, or there has been a misunderstanding and the Egyptian forward is after €15m net salary a season, which would fall just below current top earner Robert Lewandowski who earns €16m net a year with Barcelona.
Salah currently earns approximately €12m a year net at Liverpool, so getting a pay bump for what will surely be the 32 year-old's last big contract would make sense.
Whichever way the salary breaks down, there are some complications to Barcelona completing this blockbuster move!
The problems with signing Salah
The largest and most obvious problem with signing Mohamed Salah is that Barcelona don't have the financial capacity to pay his wages and still register him with La Liga.

Dani Olmo earns approximately €9.3m gross salary a year and Barcelona were only able to register him after offloading Ilkay Gundogan and using a loophole exception in case of long-term injury to take part of Andreas Christensen's salary and us that.
That exception expires in January when Christensen is expected to be fit again, meaning that Barcelona need to raise money just to keep the players they currently have, nevermind adding Salah's enormous wages to the squad.
The much-rumoured Nike deal is expected to be announced soon and provide Barcelona with the cashflow injection that they need to register Olmo, but it is unlikely to provide enough margin to secure a signing such as Salah.
But even if it did, the other major flaw with signing Salah is that he is very much a right-winger. And Barcelona already have someone by the name of 17 year-old prodigy Lamine Yamal playing right-wing.
No doubt Barcelona need another starter calibre winger to rotate with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, but paying someone €15m a year, gross or net, just to provide depth would be a staggering waste of resources.
Even if Barcelona could sign Mohamed Salah, they probably shouldn't.
