Antoine Griezmann makes incredible shirt trade for special Pokémon cards

Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has gone viral for swapping a match-worn shirt for some rare Pokémon trading cards.
After helping Diego Simeone’s side to a 5-0 win over Getafe in the Copa del Rey, he made the trade with a fan in the stands.

Griezmann was caught on video exchanging his shirt with Darizard, a popular Pokémon streamer, who, along with his son, offered the former France international star two sealed boxes of the latest Pokémon TCG expansion, Prismatic Evolutions, for the jersey.

The 33-year-old is a well-known lover of Pokemon and trading cards in general.
In 2016, he expressed his love of the phenomenon on Twitter, when he posted an image of himself alongside Pikachu with the caption: ‘Pokémon hunting’.

Griezmann: Football's biggest trading card fan
Griezmann’s passion for trading cards began in 2022.
“Two and a half years ago, I started with a chrome card from my first year, my rookie card,” he told Topps.
“I think Koke, our captain, has some chrome cards of his own, but I'm a real collector and I believe there is no football player that is collecting like me with rooms full of cards.”
Asked about his favourite card, he said: “I have a Topps Mercury of Victor Wembanyama, maybe that one. And if that’s not the best, a hockey one, a Bryan Bedard one, out of 25.
“I would love to have Michael Jordan one of one, or maybe a Wembanyama one of one.
“For example, the Wembanyama and LeBron one of one. That would be my dream.”
Griezmann also passed on his tips for collectors today.
Asked who fans should be looking to buy now, he said: “It could be Lamine Yamal in football. It could be Wembanyama in basketball. Gunnar Henderson in baseball. And American football, CJ Stroud.”
Griezmann, meanwhile, will be quite happy with his new Pokémon cards.
