Barcelona have effectively made their first signing for the 2025/26 campaign, with the addition of an exciting talent to plug an important gap in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Jonathan Tah has elected to join the Camp Nou side from Bayer Leverkusen and will almost certainly arrive as a free agent in the summer, Mundo Deportivo has announced.

Germany international Tah, 29, has long been linked with a move to Barcelona, who are once again set to continue their trend of diving into the free agent market due to their poor financial position.
While the centre-back has made his final decision, Barcelona are keen to stress that nothing concrete has been agreed.
Speaking to Sport, sporting director Deco said: "There are many variables that we do not control, but the idea to have four central defenders is there and we know what we want."
Mundo Deportivo has stated that everything is close to being tied up, however.
“Sources close to the player admit that Tah’s desire is to wear the Barca shirt and that there will soon be a meeting in Barcelona with the club to finalise the signing for the Germany international,” the Catalan paper reports.

Barcelona to hold internal discussions before Tah signed
Barcelona have some housekeeping to conclude before they meet with Tah’s agents to complete the agreement.
The most important aspect of this will be deciding which of their existing stock of centre-backs they will move on come the summer. This is liable to be Andreas Christensen, who was close to departing during the January window.
In addition to this, Barcelona will also budget for more summer arrivals, with the club now in a stronger position to pay for players following the levers pulled by president Joan Laporta in recent weeks.
The plan is for Tah, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €26.8 million, to sign a contract that will tie him to Barcelona until 2030, effectively committing the remainder of his career at the top level to the Catalan side.
Deco: Hansi Flick contract talks planned
Barcelona, meanwhile, are plotting new contract talks with head coach Hansi Flick, despite the fact the Blaugrana only sit third in the LaLiga table.
Speaking to Sport, sporting director Deco said: ““We’re very happy with Hansi Flick and we see him happy here.
“If everything continues as it is, we’ll work to extend his contract. It’s nothing urgent. We keep going.”
