FootballTransfers has been told that Arsenal are currently the frontrunners in the race to sign Williams, as Mikel Arteta looks to significantly bolster the attacking options at his disposal, however Barcelona remain interested in signing the Spain international.

Furthermore, the Blaugrana have now been informed of a deadline by the Athletic Club winger.

That is according to Spanish outlet El Nacional, who claim that Williams has told Barcelona to trigger his €58 million release clause during the first few days of the summer transfer window.

If Barcelona decide against meeting Williams’ demands, he will reportedly initiate negotiations with other suitors and a transfer will be “quickly finalised.”

Hansi Flick’s side remain in financial turmoil and they will reportedly be required to sanction several sales before they acquire the funds needed to sign Williams.

As a result, they are set to face an uphill battle to sign the Spain international this summer, with Ansu Fati, Andreas Christensen, Ferran Torres and Pau Victor among the players who could potentially leave Camp Nou in order to make way for Williams.
