Real Madrid have learned this week that Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold will sign for them as a free agent in the summer, but they have further bolstered their defence as Raul Asencio has agreed a “galactic” contract with the club.
The 22-year-old centre-back has enjoyed a breakout year at the Bernabeu, where he has been pressed into action on 29 occasions due to injury problems in the first team. Having been a regular for Castilla in the first half of the campaign, he has become a key figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans in the Champions League and LaLiga.

Now Asencio’s remarkable story is set to take another twist, with Real Madrid so impressed with his performances that he has been handed what Marca has describe as a “galactic” new four-year contract at the Bernabeu.
Having been little more than a reserve player at the beginning of the season, Asencio has signed a new deal that will see him earn €6.2 million next season, with Marca reporting that his contract could see his salary rise to as much as €9m in its final year.
The buyout clause in the deal is worth just €50m, putting the player within the reach of Europe’s biggest clubs if he continues to impress at the Bernabeu. It is claimed that Los Blancos had the opportunity to renegotiate this fee but were more pressed about getting the player simply to sign a new deal following his stellar displays.
With the news that Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid in the summer, the renovation of the Bernabeu defence is moving at pace.
Ancelotti praises Raul Asencio
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has certainly be impressed with Asencio, who has shone whether playing in the middle of the defence on the right.
“When everyone returns, Asencio will fight for his place because in the games he's played, he's deserved to be a starter. He's been very good with the ball and well positioned without it. He's performed well and deserves to be considered to fight for a place with the others,” the veteran Italian said.
Despite Asencio’s strong displays, Real Madrid are likely to enter the transfer market in the summer for a new centre-back, with their aging backline having struggled with injury problems this season.
