The Brazil international is in talks to extend his current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu - which is due to expire in 2027 - although negotiations have stalled after the 24-year-old reportedly received a lucrative salary offer from the Saudi Pro League worth €1 billion over five years.

The Transfers Podcast understands that Real Madrid are unwilling to match Vinicius Jr’s demand to be paid a higher wage than Kylian Mbappe and we have been informed that Los Blancos are open to a sale this summer.

Saudi Arabia are set to lodge a huge offer in excess of €200 million in an attempt to land Vinicius ahead of the 2025-26 campaign and although he is arguably the best player in world football, his career in Europe could be set to end later this year.

Below, FootballTransfers runs through three reasons why Real Madrid should sell Vinicius Junior this summer.

Saudi Arabia will offer a HUGE transfer fee

The Saudi Pro League have identified Vinicius Jr as their priority transfer target for the 2025 summer window and they could offer a fee that exceeds Neymar’s world record move to Paris Saint-Germain for €222m in 2017.

Money is obviously not an issue for Real Madrid, but an offer of that size will be extremely hard to turn down, regardless of Vinicius’ talent.

There are several positions that Los Blancos are eager to strengthen this summer, most notably centre-back and left-back, and selling Vinicius would help raise funds to add significant defensive reinforcements.

Nico Williams is set to be available

Losing Vinicius would be a major blow to the quality of Real Madrid’s starting XI, but that could be softened by the purchase of Athletic Club superstar Nico Williams.

The Spain international isn’t quite as talented as Vinicius, granted, but he’s available for a bargain fee of €58m due to a release clause in his current deal, he’s two years younger than the Real Madrid forward and he is rated as one of Europe’s most dangerous wingers.

Plus, he’s one of Barcelona’s top transfer targets so landing him would certainly frustrate their arch-rivals.

Kylian Mbappe is ready to be the main man

When Kylian Mbappe arrived at Real Madrid, the dynamic between himself and Vinicius was a major talking point, and the Brazilian was certainly the more influential player during the opening few months of the campaign.

However, Mbappe has now stamped his authority at the Santiago Bernabeu and he has far outperformed Vinicius in 2025.

The France international has averaged a goal contribution every 89 minutes since the turn of the year, while Vini Jr stands at only one every 225 minutes during the same time frame.

Vinicius would leave a hole in Real Madrid’s attack, of course, but Mbappe is ready to become the face of Los Blancos and lead their forward line for years to come.
