Kane, 30, is arguably England’s most important player and he had been expected to lead the line at the tournament. However, there are now doubts over whether he will return to fitness in time to play a key role in Germany.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker was forced off during the second-leg of Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Real Madrid after suffering a back injury in the game.

His substitution was initially considered to be a precaution, but Kane has not featured since the incident, with Mathys Tel leading the line during Bayern’s final two Bundesliga games of the 2023-24 season.

Thomas Tuchel recently explained the extent of Kane’s injury, admitting: “In Madrid, it was borderline. We tried injections and treatments. The back has completely closed. It has gotten worse and kept breaking out in small, everyday movements. There’s no chance he’s even training.”

The Three Lions are currently considered to be one of the favourites for glory in Germany, but their chances of success will diminish if Kane is unavailable, despite the incredible form of Ollie Watkins.

Kane has enjoyed a prolific campaign from a personal standpoint since moving to Bayern - netting 44 goals in 45 games in all competitions.

However, he was unable to claim his first piece of career silverware after Bayern’s first trophyless season since 2012.
