Who is Tete? Shakhtar's next Brazilian star ready to take on Europe

Shakhtar Donetsk have a long and proud history of developing Ukrainian players but they’re perhaps even better known for the fantastic Brazilian players that have come through their ranks over the years.
Whether it be Fred, Fernandinho, Willian or Douglas Costa, the Ukrainian giants certainly have an eye for scouting the stars of tomorrow before they’ve even made their first steps in the Brazilian top flight.

The same can certainly be said of Tete, the club’s latest Brazilian import and undoubtedly a young star in the making.
What position does Tete play in?
Despite coming through at Gremio as a right winger and attacking midfielder, Tete can play as a No.10, on either wing or even as a No.9 if called upon.
How good is Tete?
Tete made his name in Brazil before making the move to Europe, when he worked his way up the Gremio youth system from the age of eight until the point he was pushing for a first team role, after scoring 33 goals for the club’s reserves in a single year.
Despite signing a professional contract with Gremio, Tete made the move to Shakhtar before even playing for his hometown club’s first team when the Ukrainian side offered €15 million for the midfielder’s signature.
Naturally, Gremio accepted and before he knew it Tete was being parachuted into the middle of a European football campaign with his new club.
In his first half season at the club, Tete did remarkably well, bagging four goals and four assists from the right wing. In the following campaign he was often used as a No.10 and sometimes on the left wing too, where he picked up a further nine goals and five assists in 35 games across all competitions.
Last season, Tete announced his presence on the international scene, when he bagged a goal and assists in Shakhtar’s unexpected 3-2 victory over Real Madrid, along with a further seven goals and four assists in 36 games.
As such, the Brazilian went into this season as one of the club’s most exciting players and certainly hasn’t disappointed, with 10 goals and three assists from his first 27 games of the season, as Tete has quickly developed into one of Ukrainian football’s most exciting wingers.
What clubs are interested in Tete?
Like many Brazilian stars that have walked through the doors of Shakhtar, Tete will inevitably go on to bigger and brighter things within European football.
Due to the player’s minor profile in Ukrainian football and Shakhtar’s inability to make waves in European football, Tete hasn’t yet made it to the stage that he’s being routinely linked with moves to bigger and better clubs.
However, with the midfielder doing as well as he is in Ukraine, it’s only a matter of time before a Premier League or La Liga club make a move for the player.
