Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel admitted that he didn’t know why his team were so poor in their 1-0 defeat to Juventus in the Champions League.

The Stamford Bridge side were forced to confront only their second defeat of the season, just a few days after Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Tuchel’s side on Saturday.

As such, the result now shines a notable spotlight on the European champions, as Chelsea fans begin to wonder whether Tuchel and his staff are getting the best out of a star-studded side.

However, any hope of the Chelsea manager offering some reassuring messages after the match was quickly ruled out as Tuchel admitted that he didn’t know what went wrong.

"I think we started not sharp enough,” said Tuchel on BT Sport after the defeat in Turin.

“The first 12 to 15 minutes we could have harmed them much more. There was so much space for dangerous balls into the box and ask more questions.

"We struggled to create our own rhythm and intensity because they were so deep and passive. We were lacking runs. We were so good in training yesterday and not good enough, not free enough today. I don't know why.

"I felt we were a bit slow and tired, mentally slow, decision making. That's why it's a strange one to analyse."

What are Chelsea’s next run of games?

Fortunately for Tuchel, he’ll likely have plenty of time to evaluate what happened against Juventus and iron out any problems in the coming matches.

His side have a relatively comfortable match in the Premier League this weekend, when they welcome Southampton to Stamford Bridge. Which is then followed by Brentford away after the international break.

After that Chelsea then play Malmo in the Champions League, which should provide the perfect opportunity for the European champions to get back to winning ways.
