Why Barca and Liverpool are back in front in Adeyemi race this summer
Barcelona and Liverpool have been linked with some of the biggest strikers in world football ahead of the summer transfer window.
Kylian Mbappe seems destined to leave Paris Saint-Germain for one of the Spanish giants, while Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland could also end up plying his trade in La Liga if things go his way this summer.
Another young striker that has been linked with a move to Barca and Liverpool is none other than RB Salzburg forward Karim Adeyemi.
The young Germany international seemed pegged for a move to Borussia Dortmund this summer, with the club heavily linked with a move for the player in the January transfer window.
However, a new report suggests that the Anfield side in particular haven't given up hope of landing the Germany international.
According to Sky Sports Austria, Liverpool have held talks with Red Bull Salzburg over the forward and could now look to beat Dortmund to the punch.
Why won’t he be moving to Dortmund?
Although Dortmund have led the race to sign Adeyemi for the past six months, that could be about to change.
According to BILD, the young striker’s club have not only put a huge asking price on the player that stands at a sizable €45 million, but they’ve also set a deadline for the Bundesliga side to submit a bid.
Indeed, according to the report, Dortmund will have to come up with the money to buy the striker by April 18 or risk being rejected from signing him at all.
This, naturally, is where Liverpool come in. Not only could the club feasibly afford Salzburg’s inflated price for the player but they haven’t been pain-stakingly negotiating with the Austrian side for the last six months and had a deadline sent through the fax machine.
As such, a player that now seemed destined for the Westfalenstadion could now be available to the highest bidder. Which means Adeyemi could now be on his way to Anfield this summer.
