How much each Champions League club spent on transfers this summer

The Champions League is set to return this week, with Real Madrid looking to defend their crown and win their fifth title in seven years.
The Spanish champions have arguably the world’s best footballer in Karim Benzema amongst their ranks and they’ve added to their squad with Aurelien Tchouameni, which was one of the summer’s biggest transfers.
Real Madrid spent big on the midfielder, but there are others across Europe who spent plenty as well as they look to go far in Europe’s premier club cup competition.
Clubs across the continent have gone big this year – especially those from the Premier League – showing where the might lies in football.

Spending in Europe reaches high
In Group A, Ajax were the biggest spenders, with much of their money being generated through the sale of players like Lisandro Martinez and Antony to Manchester United.
Liverpool are just behind them, as they spent big on forward Darwin Nunez, who moved from Benfica, and the pair are in a strong position to qualify from this group.
In Group C, Barcelona were happy to pull a few levers as they spent €153 million, slightly more than Bayern Munich’s €138 million, as both spent significantly to boost their squads.
In Group D sit the Champions League’s second-biggest spenders, Tottenham Hotspur, who have backed Antonio Conte heavily with a €170 million outlay as the likes of Richarlison and Ivan Perisic moved.

Chelsea were Europe’s highest spenders as Todd Boehly and the new ownership showed their ambition right from the off, spending €282 million in their first transfer window.
That’s a huge contrast to the rest of Group E, as Milan (€48 million), Red Bull Salzburg (€30 million) and Dinamo Zagreb (€7 million) spent significantly less.
In Group G, Manchester City’s €140 million outlay was significantly more than the other competitors in that group, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen.
Paris Saint-Germain spent €148 million to improve their Champions League fortunes, slightly more than group rivals Juventus, who spent €102 million.
Spending in Europe’s top competition is reaching unprecedented heights, showing that this is truly the playground of the billionaires.
