Gianluigi Donnarumma has been labelled a “piece of s***” by AC Milan fans, while Fabio Capello has branded the PSG goalkeeper “ungrateful”.

Donnarumma caused a huge controversy this summer when he rejected a new contract offer from Milan and instead signed for PSG on a Bosman transfer.

This was despite the fact that he spent eight years growing up with the Rossoneri, debuting at 16 before making over 250 appearances.

On Wednesday evening, Donnarumma returns to San Siro for the first time since his transfer to PSG as Italy take on Spain in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League.

And Donnarumma is unlikely to be given a hero’s welcome by home fans.

Milan Ultras banner against Donnarumma

Ahead of the game, Milan Ultras erected a banner over one of the city’s biggest bridges which read: “Donnarumma, piece of “s***. You will never be welcome in Milan again.”

What did Capello say about Donnarumma?

And Donnarumma was also slammed by former AC Milan and England manager Fabio Capello ahead of Wednesday’s match.

Capello branded Donnarumma “ungrateful” for the way in which he deserted the Rossoneri.

"Donnarumma was ungrateful towards Milan, going to PSG. For everything the club had done for him and his family when he was a kid, he should have behaved differently.”

“I hope he is satisfied, because he is a player of the national team who has made a fundamental contribution to the Euro 2020 title,” Capello told the Corriere dello Sport.

“But let me say one thing: Donnarumma was ungrateful towards Milan, going to PSG. For everything the club had done for him and his family when he was a kid, he should have behaved differently.”

Donnarumma has made four appearances for PSG so far since joining, although his team lost 2-0 on Sunday away to Rennes in Ligue 1.
