Messi confirms he WILL return to Barcelona after PSG contract
Lionel Messi has confirmed that he intends on moving back to Barcelona when his contract at Paris Saint-Germain comes to an end and may look to return to his former club as well.
The Argentina international shook the world of football in the summer when his tenure at the Spanish club came to a dramatic end.
Due to Barcelona’s financial problems, the club were unable to offer Messi a new contract and the player was forced to leave the club. He then made a move to PSG a few days later.
However, despite only joining the Parisian club a few months ago, Messi is already clear that he intends on returning to his former home when his contract with PSG comes to an end in 2023.
'What is almost confirmed is that we'll return to Barcelona'
“I don't know if when my contract with PSG ends. What is almost confirmed, and for sure, is that we are going to live in Barcelona again and that our life will be there,” said Messi in an interview with Sport.
“It's what my wife wants and what I want. I do not know if when my contract with Paris ends but to live we will return to Barcelona.”
Messi’s departure from Barcelona wasn’t entirely amicable and the player and the club’s new president, Joan Laporta, have traded blows over the manner in which he left in the summer.
However, despite this apparent friction, Messi could do very little to hide his interest in returning to Barca in the near future in a non-playing capacity.
When asked about returning to Barca at the end of his career, Messi said: “Yes. I always said that I would love to be able to help the club in what could be useful and can add and help the club to be well.
“I would love to be a technical director at some point. I don't know if it will be at Barcelona or not.
“Or if it will be otherwise. If there is a possibility, I would like to contribute again in what I can because it is the club that I love and I would love for it to continue to be good, to continue growing and to continue being one of the best in the world.”
