Rennes confident Real Madrid target Camavinga won’t leave for free
Rennes have insisted that they are not fearful of Real Madrid target Eduardo Camavinga departing on a free transfer.
Camavinga’s contract with Rennes is up in June 2022 but the Ligue 1 club are confident that they will be able to persuade him to extend his deal.
Meanwhile, many of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, are monitoring his situation. Real Madrid, particularly, have been heavily linked to the 18-year-old, who has already earned France caps and scored for the national team.
Camavinga had gone off the boil for a period but has rediscovered his best level and Rennes remain excited about his development.
‘Camavinga very attached to Rennes’
“For the last few matches, we’ve rediscovered the Camavinga of previous months,” sporting director Florian Maurice told TVR. “That’s interesting for us. It proves that he is attached to Rennes.
“We want to see Camavinga continue here. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season. We’ll continue to have discussions with his agents to find a solution, before thinking about the possibility of seeing him leave for free in 2022.
“I think he’s very respectful of the club that helped form him. I don’t think it will come to that scenario.”
Camavinga made his Rennes debut in 2019 and has already amassed 67 senior appearances for the side. Typically deployed in a deep midfield role, he has a couple of goals and four assists to his credit.
The teenager also featured four times as Rennes made their debut in the Champions League earlier this term, although they crashed out of Europe after finishing bottom of their group.
Real Madrid, though, will have been undeterred by that performance, aware that Camavinga has all the ingredients to become one of the best players in the world in his role in the decade to come.
