Mbappe has ‘no excuses’ for not signing new PSG deal, says president
Kylian Mbappe has been told that he no longer has any excuses for not signing a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe’s present deal with the Parisians draws to an end in 2022, making him vulnerable to depart on a free transfer.
The World Cup winner is not short of interest, with Real Madrid closely linked with a move for the 22-year-old.
Presently, though, finances make any deal for Mbappe to go to Los Blancos impossible and he remains in a state of limbo.
PSG, meanwhile, are eager to tie the young attacker down on a long-term basis.
PSG’s strong Mbappe message
Mbappe has previously cited concerns about PSG’s competitiveness in the Champions League as one of the reasons why he has delayed, despite the Parisians making the final of the 2019 edition and reaching the final four 12 months on.
His criticisms have simply sparked the Parc des Princes side to move into overdrive in the transfer window.
Lionel Messi’s arrival on Tuesday was the culmination of an incredible summer that has seen them capture Sergio Ramos, Gini Wijnaldum, Gigio Donnarumma and Achraf Hakimi while spending only €60 million in transfer fees.
“Mbappe is a PSG player and we know his future,” Al-Khelaifi told the media as Messi was presented on Wednesday.
“He has said he wanted a competitive team and we could not have one that is any more competitive.
“He has no excuses to do anything other than to stay.”
Mbappe arrived at PSG in 2017, when he joined for €140 million from Monaco – a world-record fee for a teenager that still stands. Since then, he has gone on to score 132 goals for the club in 172 appearances, in the process becoming one of the most marketable stars in the game.
