Camavinga: Benzema the best player in La Liga
Eduardo Camavinga has hailed Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema as the best player in La Liga, while he has also explained why he chose to join the Blancos.
Benzema has scored a brilliant eight goals in seven La Liga games so far this season in order to lead Madrid to the top of the table.
“Benzema is a leader,” Benzema said according to Marca. “We talk a lot, and I didn’t know it but he’s a very funny person. He leads the whole group.”
Camavinga is considered as one of the most talented youngsters in world football and joined Madrid from Rennes in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
Having initially made his professional debut at the age of 16, Camavinga says he only had eyes for Madrid despite interest from the likes of PSG and Man Utd.
“As soon as I saw that Real Madrid were after me and they were ready to prepare an offer I didn’t hesitate for a second,” Camavinga explained.
“Although yes, it’s true I could have stayed at Rennes.
“They will be in my heart forever, and I will never let them go. I keep watching their games and I will return to the stadium to see my old teammates.”
Camavinga’s World Cup ambition
Camavinga’s performances for Rennes led to him becoming the youngest player in almost 90 years to be called up by France, making his debut at the age of just 17.
And the 18-year-old midfielder says it is his aim to play for France at the 2022 World Cup.
“I’m at the biggest club in the world, so that will help me to go with France,” he said. “[Qatar 2022] is a goal. I have to put in good performances here, because it’s my performances at club level that will help me earn a place in the French national team.”
