Four months and 20 days after it was announced that Sergio Ramos was joining Paris Saint-Germain, the centre-back is finally making his debut for the French club. Calf injuries have postponed his PSG debut multiple times, but the Spaniard is now able to feature and has been named in the starting line-up for the capital city club’s Ligue 1 clash away at Saint-Étienne this Sunday.

This will be Ramos’ first match since the second leg of the 2020/21 Champions League, when Real Madrid lost 2-0 to Chelsea in London. That was on May 5th, which was 207 days ago.

In all of 2021, Ramos has only managed to play in seven games so far. He featured in five for Real Madrid, with two appearances in January against Osasuna and Athletic Club, two outings in March against Elche and Atalanta and then the Chelsea trip in May. There were also two Spain matches, the World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Kosovo in March.

This means the Saint-Étienne Ligue 1 game will be just Ramos’ eighth football match of 2021, a year that started with the centre-back considering the possibility of playing at both Euro 2020 and the Olympics. Lingering injury issues saw Ramos controversially left out of Luis Enrique’s Euro 2020 squad, but the coach was proved right as the centre-back remained sidelined through his first four months at PSG.

Now, Ramos will finally play again and this will be his first club match for a team other than Real Madrid since August of 2005. It’ll also be his first ever time playing in the same team as Lionel Messi, his former Clásico rival.

The PSG starting line-up vs Saint-Étienne

As Ramos finally plays again, he’ll partner Marquinhos in central defence. The full PSG line-up for the game is: Gianluigi Donnarumma; Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Sergio Ramos, Juan Bernat; Danilo, Idrissa Gueye; Angel Di Maria, Lionel Messi, Neymar; Kylian Mbappé.
