Kylian Mbappe has reportedly chosen to stay at Paris Saint-Germain rather than make a sensational transfer to Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old's contract at PSG is set to expire at the end of the season, but he will sign a new two-year deal to keep him at the club until 2024, according to reports from Le Parisien.

Mbappe's parents and representatives have spoken at length with both PSG and Real Madrid in recent weeks and months, but are said to have agreed a deal in principle that will see him extend his stay in the French capital.

While Mbappe will reportedly sign a two-year deal, Le Parisien believe there is the option of a further year included in the contract, meaning Mbappe could stay until 2025.

Mbappe's mother claims no deal done

Within minutes of the story breaking, a statement appeared on a Twitter account that is under the name of Mbappe's mother, Fayza Lamari, that rejected the reports.

"There's no agreement in principle with PSG (or another club)," the statement, which comes from an unverified account, says. "The discussions over the future of Kylian are continuing under a climate of great serenity to allow him to make the best choice, with respect to all parties."

How the deal went down

Talks are said to have sped up between Mbappe's camp and PSG in recent days, with the French side keen to secure the player's services for an extended period of time.

Mbappe will reportedly earn a net annual salary of €50 million, as well as a signing-on bonus of €100m, meaning the deal could cost PSG €250m if the Frenchman chooses to activate the one-year extension and stay for three years.

With this news, Mbappe is now set to snub a move to Real Madrid, who were interested in signing him on a free transfer this summer, in favour of staying put at PSG.

Real Madrid had a €200m bid for Mbappe turned down by PSG on deadline day last summer and have kept close tabs on the forward for several years now. Los Blancos had hoped that Mbappe's would reject the offer of a new PSG contract and seek a move to Santiago Bernabeu, but that no longer looks to be on the cards.

Mbappe to continue record-breaking PSG spell

Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco in 2017 on an initial one-year loan deal that was made permanent after one season. He has scored over 20 goals in every season at the club and has contributed 58 goals and assists just this campaign alone.

PSG did exit the Champions League to Real Madrid at the last-16 stage which had fuelled rumours suggesting Mbappe would choose a move to Spain over a stay in France. However, despite scoring in both legs and still ending up on the losing side, Mbappe has seemingly chosen to stick it out at PSG in order to become a star at the club.

He is on course to break Edinson Cavani's goal record and become PSG's all-time record goalscorer within the next few months if he carries on at his current rate.
