Kylian Mbappe’s rejection of Real Madrid has sparked an uproar in the Spanish press, who have been fairly angry since the forward’s decision to stay in Paris.

It was long expected that Mbappe would be moving to Real Madrid this summer following the expiry of his contract, but that move didn’t materialize.

Instead, Mbappe made a surprising decision to stay at Paris Saint-Germain, signing a three-year contract until 2025 and continuing his five-year stay.

What has the Spanish press been saying?

In the Spanish press, many weren’t happy, and they’ve taken to attacking Mbappe, with some labelling him as a ‘coward’ for going back on his word.

El Chiringuito, the notorious TV station known for its dramatic views, didn’t hold back either and presenter Jose Felix Diaz went on a famous rant.

Diaz said: “Just 10 days ago you were giving your word [to Real Madrid]. They sent you a shirt and you received it for your birthday.

“You were denying reports that were proven to be true. Mbappe, you're not a sportsman. You don't keep your word. You're not a man. It's that clear. I can't consider you as one.

“Why? Because you've misled millions of people, not only Florentino Perez. Just two weeks ago, or even 10 days ago, you still said 'yes'.

“Then, you were so cowardly that you didn't even phone, you just sent a message. You just showed what you are. You're a man who doesn't keep his word. You'll be a great player, but never a great man.”

Others in the Spanish media were less pleased: Marca, the paper commonly associated with Real Madrid, put Mbappe on their front page, saying he betrayed the club and that it took “a lot of class to play for Real Madrid”.

Now, though, this is the way things are: Mbappe will stay at Paris Saint-Germain, while Real Madrid will have to look elsewhere for options.
