Carlos Tevez has hinted that his former Argentina team-mate and seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi could look to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Messi spent 21 years in total at Barcelona after arriving from his homeland as a youth player in 2000, and Tevez has revealed that the switch to PSG hasn't gone as Messi had expected.

The pair played together for the national team when their careers overlapped, although never crossed paths at club level, with Tevez making his name in the Premier League with both Manchester clubs before joining Juventus in Serie A.

However, Tevez, 38, does believe that Messi is far happier when playing for Argentina than he is when he turns out for PSG.

Messi has contributed 11 goals and 13 assists in 33 games in all competitions for PSG this season, but has faced criticism for his lack of Ligue 1 goals, with just six in the competition.

The forward, who won the most recent Copa America with Argentina in 2021, was keen to stay at Barcelona last summer, but the Blaugrana were unable to renew his contract due to financial restrictions that saw them also lose Antoine Griezmann on a season-long loan back to Atletico Madrid.

What has Tevez said?

Tevez, who has 76 senior Argentina caps to his name, told Seleccion de Noticias: "One is when he is with PSG and the other is when he comes to the Argentina national team."

The former Juventus forward added that Messi is "half" as happy with PSG as he is when playing for Argentina, suggesting he isn't convinced by the project in France.

Messi is now approaching the age of 35, and after cutting an irritated figure at points during the past season at PSG he could leave the club. His contract at PSG expires in 2023, so he could leave after just two years. A return to Barcelona has been touted, while a move to the MLS could offer a new challenge for the superstar.

Furthermore, PSG could lose Kylian Mbappe this summer, with Real Madrid confident they will be able to land the French superstar for free. His contract at the Parc des princes expires at the conclusion of the current season, meaning he is able to join Madrid this summer.

Despite throwing cash around to sign Mbappe and Neymar, PSG are still yet to win the Champions League, which has proven to be elusive for the club, and Messi may be the next star to leave PSG.
