Former Arsenal star Lacazette set to miss Lyon friendly for incredible reason
Alexandre Lacazette’s return to Lyon this summer has hit an unexpected hurdle, with the pre-season preparations of the former Arsenal striker hampered by an unusual problem: he has been attacked by wasps.
Lacazette left Arsenal in June following the expiration of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and re-joined Lyon, where he came through the academy and scored 100 Ligue 1 goals in seven seasons in the first team before departing to the Premier League.
His return to the French side had started smoothly by scoring in a friendly against Bourg before featuring in a victory over Dynamo Kiev. He subsequently played in a loss against Anderlecht.
Lacazette attacked by wasps
Lacazette, though, faces the possibility of missing OL’s friendly against Feyenoord on Sunday after being attacked by wasps during a training camp in the Netherlands. L’Equipe reports that “the former Arsenal striker was the victim of a dozen wasp stings in the forest”.
It appears that the 31-year-old has had a reaction to the stings and will be struggling to make the fixture against the Rotterdam club, with Lyon also slated to play Willem II on Saturday in a match in which they will primarily use their reserve and youth players.
Striker Moussa Dembele also suffered wasp stings in the same incident as Lacazette, although the hitman was able to take part in training on Thursday and appears in good shape to take part in the weekend’s fixture.
Tolisso also injured
Similarly, Lacazette’s fellow summer arrival, Corentin Tolisso, will miss the Feyenoord match with a calf injury.
Finally, Lyon are closing in on the signing of Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, who had been previously linked with a move to Manchester United and Barcelona this summer. The Argentina international is expected to cost around €4 million, with his price low because he is out of contract next summer.
