Lille to demand big fee for Real Madrid target Jonathan David

Jonathan David is emerging as one of the brightest forward prospects in Europe and interest in him has constantly been rising over the last few months.

David has become as one of Europe’s top young forwards and is widely targeted by many clubs across the continent after several seasons of impressive displays for the French club.

Over the years, he has attracted interested from clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, while Real Madrid have recently joined the race for the Canadian.

Now, they have learned how much they will have to pay if they want to sign the forward from Lille, and it won’t be cheap to get him.

According to Spanish publication Fichajes, it’s believed that Lille will demand between €50 million and €60 million from any club that wants to sign the forward.

David has had a fine season with Lille so far, netting 10 goals and providing four assists in 17 appearances and while his World Cup didn’t go as well as he would’ve liked, there is still interest in him.

Lille boss Paulo Fonseca admitted that it will be difficult to keep hold of David when the transfer window opens next year and that this may be his last season at the club.

“It will be difficult to keep Jonathan David at the club next season. There are not many strikers with his skills & numbers in Europe… he’s just 22,” Fonseca said to La Voix des Sports.

“I think top European clubs will try to sign Jonathan David,” he added, admitting that there may be a transfer war in order to land his signature.

David joined Lille in 2020 from Belgian club Gent, who he started his professional career with having played in his Canada before that.

In his time at Lille, he has netted 41 goals in 111 matches and his side won Ligue 1 in 2021, ahead of the riches of Paris Saint-Germain before the team were split apart in the transfer window.
