Messi’s contract is up with the Ligue 1 side in the summer - and so they are trying to tie him down to a further deal.

Romano provided an update to the situation on Friday. He tweeted: “Conversations continue between Leo Messi and PSG. Understand Messi’s representatives and PSG board will also meet in person in the next 2/3 weeks. PSG will submit official new deal bid, length of contract and final details will be discussed to get it signed.”

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner left Barcelona when the club ran into financial trouble and moved to PSG as a free agent in 2021. But, given his connection to the side, he has been linked with a move back to the Nou Camp, especially with his deal running down in France.

It is thought, though, that fresh terms are expected to be signed at Parc des Princes and that there is not much possibility of a move back to Barcelona.

Messi had spoken of a return to Catalonia when his playing time is up: “When I finish my career, I will return to live in Barcelona - it's my home,” he said.

His former side have made no secret of their ambition to eventually bring Messi back and club president Joan Laporta has often spoken about having Messi back into the fold at some point.

Speaking to InfoBae, Messi explained that his faith in God granted him the belief that he would be taking the title: "I always thank God," he said. "I knew he was going to give me a World Cup, I don't know, I felt it. Luckily he gave himself what we dreamed of so much.

"Luckily it happened in the end. From that day everything changed for me. Now we can say it."
