PSG line up Mourinho to replace Galtier

Paris Saint-Germain have sounded Jose Mourinho out about the prospect of replacing Christophe Galtier as Paris Saint-Germain manager, according to reports.

Galtier only took charge of PSG at the start of the season, and has guided the Parisians to the top of the Ligue 1 table, five points clear of their great rivals Marseille, after 23 games played.

But there have been recent wobbles, on and off the pitch.

Paris have lost their last three games in all competitions - dumped out of the Coupe de France by Marseille and beaten by Monaco in the league before last Tuesday's 1-0 reverse to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

After that last defeat, Kylian Mbappe urged his teammates to "eat and rest well". Neymar duly took part in a late-night poker tournament, and there is a suspicion that Galtier is beginning to lose the dressing room.

PSG have been fierce with their managers in the past, with Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino both dismissed despite success, and the club's Football Advisor has reportedly sounded out his Portuguese compatriot, Mourinho.

"Luis Campos, head of football at PSG, has contacted Jose Mourinho," report Fichajes. "They maintain a great relationship and communicated many times in the past. Paris want a coach with a strong hand to make adjustments and place Mbappe firmly at the centre of the project."

Mbappe was the highest paid footballer in the world before Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al Nassr in January after spurning Real Madrid to sign a new three-year contract last May, but he has cut a frustrated figure this season.

The Frenchman has publicly lashed out at leading the line while Neymar and Lionel Messi occupy the deeper positions he prefers, and rumours of a Real transfer persist.

Mourinho appears to be happy at Roma meanwhile, having led the Giallorossi to the Europa Conference League title last May, but he could be tempted by a project in a league he hasn't yet coached in.
