Sergio Aguero’s son has taken a savage swipe at PSG as they say goodbye to his father’s ex-Argentina teammate Lionel Messi.

Messi will leave the Ligue 1 champions when his contract expires at the end of this month – and, after the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner had made his final appearances for Les Parisiens on Saturday, the club thanked him with a simple message accompanying a video on Instagram: “#MerciMessi”.

Aguero junior – who is also the grandson of the late Diego Maradona – replied in Spanish: “Era mucho para ustedes” – which effectively translates as “He [Messi] was too big for you.”

Messi’s two years at PSG – who he joined after leaving Barcelona as a free agent two years ago – have hardly been harmonious.

There have been rumours of some tension between Argentina’s 2022 World Cup-winning captain and fan favourite Kylian Mbappe – while Messi has repeatedly been booed by supporters apparently unhappy with his performances in recent months.

Where next for Messi?

To cap it all off, Messi was suspended by PSG last month for making an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia as part of a role promoting the country’s tourism board.

The 35-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Al-Hilal, champions of the Saudi Pro League – the division where his old La Liga rival Cristiano Ronaldo has been playing for Al-Nassr since January, and Karim Benzema is said to be heading after exiting Real Madrid.

There continues to be talk of a romantic return to Barcelona for Messi, too – while MLS outfit Inter Miami are also said to be considering a swoop, with reports in Argentina even claiming that a deal is on the verge of completion.
