Kylian Mbappe has been told that he must sign a contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain by 31 July, or the club will attempt to sell him this summer.

The France international has just one year left on his current deal at the Parc des Princes, and last month he sent a letter to the club’s hierarchy to explain that he will not be renewing his stay at the Ligue 1 champions.

That sparked a flurry of transfer rumours, with Real Madrid immediately pushed to the front of the race to land Mbappe thanks to their long-standing interest in the 24-year-old.

However, Los Blancos have already signed Jude Bellingham for €103 million this summer and they reportedly believe that Vinicius Junior is a more superior talent than Mbappe and do not want to hinder the Brazilian’s development.

But, Karim Benzema’s departure to Saudi Arabia has left a gaping hole at the spearhead of Real’s attack, which could be filled by Mbappe if they decide to pursue his signature this summer.

Of course, the Frenchman could’ve moved to the Santiago Bernabeu last summer when his deal at PSG expired in 2022, but he chose to extend his stay in Paris by a further two years, with the option of a third - which he must trigger himself. One season later and he could be moved on.

PSG to sell Mbappe?

According to L’Equipe, PSG have told Mbappe that he must commit his long-term future to the club before August, or they will look to offload him this window. The superstar has previously reiterated that he would like to stay at the club next season, but he does not want to be at PSG beyond 2024.

However, PSG are now reportedly ready to sell the forward this summer rather than lose him for free next year. Previously, the Parisians rejected a €200m bid from Real Madrid in 2021.

L’Equipe have reported that discussions between Mbappe’s camp and PSG have resumed, but they are no closer to an agreement. Furthermore, the Ligue 1 giants reportedly believe that Mbappe wants a free transfer in 2024 in order to earn a higher signing-on bonus at his next club.

Liverpool are another club who are reportedly keen on offering Mbappe a lucrative package to join them.
