The race to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer could be blown WIDE OPEN thanks to a shocking new twist in the high-profile saga.

Mbappe is now officially FOR SALE after refusing so far to extend his contract past the summer of 2024. As it stands he could leave the Ligue 1 club for free then, with Real Madrid ready to welcome him with open arms.

PSG of course will do anything they can to avoid losing Mbappe for free, and are committed to selling him this summer if he refuses to extend that contract.

PSG have little leverage, or power, over Mbappe

The only problem for club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is that he has very little leverage or power in this situation. If Mbappe won't extend his deal, he cannot force him to. He also cannot force Mbappe to sign for a club he doesn't want to join.

All of this leaves Real Madrid in the driving seat, and there is very little noise coming from the Spanish capital right now. Los Blancos know they can sit and wait, and acquire Mbappe for absolutely nothing next summer.

Mbappe told he will be BENCHED

With this in mind PSG have really gone in hard, according to respected French daily Le Parisien. They have told Mbappe that unless he extends his contract or leaves, he WILL NOT play a single game for the club next season.

This intriguing new twist at least makes Mbappe think and answer a question - is he prepared to spend a season on the bench to get his dream move to the Santiago Bernabeu next summer? Do not forget that a season on the sidelines would also hurt Mbappe's hopes of starring for France at Euro 2024.

All of this in theory means Mbappe could be quite literally pushed into the arms of another club - and there are several Premier League teams reportedly in the mix.

Reports coming out of Spain this weekend talk about the usual suspects - Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. But even Tottenham - who could well sell Harry Kane to Bayern Munich this summer - are said to be monitoring the situation.

There of course is interest from the Saudi Pro League and money would be no option there. There is even talk of a Saudi club acquiring Mbappe for just a single season before he joins Madrid.
