Kylian Mbappe took just 11 minutes into his return to action for PSG following a heated dispute with the club that Real Madrid have savoured.

His appearance, though, was not a triumphant one as PSG were held to a 1-1 draw by Toulouse, meaning they have only two points in their opening couple of Ligue 1 fixtures.

All eyes, meanwhile, were on the forward as he took his place on the bench at the start of the encounter in the Pink City following a dramatic month.

After Mbappe refused to take up an option in his contract to remain with the club until 2025, he was put up for sale by PSG, who believed that he had already made an agreement with Real Madrid to sign as a free agent next summer.

This sparked an ugly series of events that saw Mbappe frozen out of the club’s tour of Japan and South Korea, while he also missed the opening game of the season – a scoreless home draw against Lorient – amid the Ligue 1 club claiming that he could spend the whole season in the stands.

Last Sunday, though, it was announced that Mbappe had started training with the squad again and on Friday new PSG head coach Luis Enrique affirmed that the 24-year-old was in “perfect shape” to play.

He might have been left on the bench from the beginning of the game, but after being called on as a substitute along with debutant Ousmane Dembele he was quick to make an impression against TFC.

Mbappe transforms limp PSG against Toulouse

The arrival of PSG’s most recognised attackers saw what had been a stilted attacking performance immediately lift in tempo.

Within 10 minutes, Mbappe had won a penalty kick as he drew a foul from Ruben Gabrielsen that needed a VAR review before being awarded.

KM7 took responsibility from the spot, drilling a right-footed effort into the corner beyond teenage goalkeeper Guillaume Restes to mark a sensational return to action after the most tempestuous period in his career to date.

Mbappe’s introduction served to underline his quality but also his importance to PSG, who had been labouring for a second successive match before his arrival. Real Madrid will have taken note.
