Kylian Mbappe’s decision not to renew his PSG contract has been the catalyst for chaos at the Parc des Princes club, with reports from Spain suggesting that head coach Luis Enrique could even leave the Parisians.

Fabrizio Romano has moved to comment on these rumours, shooting down any suggestion that the former Barcelona boss coach leave without even overseeing a single competitive match in charge of the side.

Luis Enrique, who signed a two-year deal with the club on 5 July, has overseen a difficult preseason for PSG, including the infamous tour of Japan and South Korea, which Mbappe sat out at the behest of the club as he continues to attempt to orchestrate a free transfer in 2024 - something Les Parisiens are refusing to stand for.

Results in the Far East were not what PSG might have wished. Although they overcame Jeonbuk 3-0 on Thursday, they also drew with Al-Nassr and lost to both Cerezo Osaka and Inter Milan, raising questions over PSG’s readiness to start the new season.

Romano, though, says this is simply “fake news”.

Luis Enrique will be PSG manager

Speaking via his YouTube channel, the football transfer news specialist explained that he had spoken to a spokesman at PSG, who denied the information in the strongest possible terms. Luis Enrique is and will be PSG manager next season.

Romano also spoke to sources close to Luis Enrique. The message was echoed here: the former Spain boss is not thinking of leaving PSG, although it was admitted that there is tension at the club being caused by the Mbappe story.

PSG suspect the news because it emanates from Spain, where the press have a dislike of the Parisian club because of the bullish way that it has expressed its financial power by pulling superstars like Neymar and Lionel Messi away from LaLiga.

PSG sporting director Luis Campos, however, does find himself under major pressure because of the Mbappe situation, and it is possible that a miscommunication started this improbable rumour that Luis Enrique wishes to leave.
