PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has broken his silence on Kylian Mbappe and the transfer saga that engulfed the Ligue 1 champions this summer.

Mbappe was temporarily frozen out of PSG’s first-team for failing to extend his contract with the club amid claims that he had already a deal agreed to join Real Madrid at the end of his contract in the summer of 2024.

The 24-year-old was ultimately welcomed back into the fold at PSG and has already scored four goals in three appearances for the Parc des Princes side.

Indeed, relations between the two parties appear to have thawed significantly, with reports even suggesting that Mbappe could sign a new deal with the club.

Certainly, this is reflected in the words of Al-Khelaifi to Portuguese outlet Record, which suggests that the issues of both Mbappe’s contract and Real Madrid have been put to one side for the moment.

He said: “Kylian Mbappe is an incredible player and a fantastic person. And the PSG team, on and off the pitch, has never been so united, which I think was possible to see last weekend, during the match against Lyon.”

New-look PSG shaping up well

Indeed, the crushing 4-1 success at Parc OL was an outstanding demonstration of the progress made by Luis Enrique’s side so far this season and Al-Khelaifi is excited to see more from this new-look team.

“This year, in the new cycle of PSG, we focus less on results and more on performance and our style of play. If we do that, the results will appear accordingly. We have a fantastic coach and sporting director and I am very happy with the spirit found at PSG,” Al-Khelaifi added.

Indeed, the transfers made by PSG this summer correspond to the type of players that Mbappe wanted to bring to the club, further heightening suggestions that he may yet remain in the French capital.
