'It's over' - PSG make seismic announcement

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has made a stunning announcement that will radically alter the future of the club.

Kylian Mbappe has been dominating headlines in Paris for months - years, even - and his future is deeply entwined with that of PSG. Should he depart for Real Madrid in the summer, the French giants will lose one of the biggest names in world football and, therefore, one of the club's biggest assets.

However, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has now revealed something that could be just as influential for the club's fate as Mbappe's potential free-transfer exit. The Qatari has announced that PSG will leave the Parc des Princes, the club's home for the past 50 years.

"It's easier for us now that we know what we want. It's over for us," Al-Khelaifi said while present at a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee, to which he was subsequently reappointed until 2028 by a unanimous vote.

This stunning announcement comes after an eight-year ownership battle between the perennial Ligue 1 champions and the French capital. The Paris City Council recently reaffirmed that the Parc des Princes is not for sale, squashing any hope Al-Khelaifi and his fellow club chiefs had of acquiring the ground.

PSG to build a new stadium

Interestingly, PSG's stadium lease still runs for another 19 years, until 2043, but the Parisians will now focus all their energy and resources on building a new home as soon as possible, according to L'Equipe.

In light of this news, PSG have decided to cancel any and all renovation plans on the Parc des Princes, including increasing the ground's capacity to 60,000. The Ligue side consider the departure from their stadium as 'forced' and have held an emergency meeting to discuss the next steps.

The Parc des Princes has been the home of PSG since 1974, so for all but three years of the club's existence. L'Equipe expects this announcement to "have the effect of an explosion for Paris Saint-Germain supporters." The next few years could see a radical change in PSG's identity.
