Mbappe sends PSG message after suffering substitute HUMILIATION on Monaco return

Kylian Mbappe’s Paris Saint-Germain career is coming to an unceremonious end.

The France superstar was hooked at half-time during PSG’s Ligue 1 clash against AS Monaco on Friday night, with the 24-year-old enduring a difficult return to his former club.

The ex-Monaco forward took just one shot (off target) during the first 45 minutes, completed only one of his four attempted dribbles and lost possession 10 times. Mbappe did produce two key passes, but it was a wholly disappointing performance, especially considering he was playing in his preferred left wing position.

Marco Asensio had previously been substituted after 39 minutes following an injury, while Goncalo Ramos was withdrawn in the 59th minute as Luis Enrique altered his entire frontline before an hour had passed at Stade Louis II.

Mbappe did suffer a slight challenge in the first-half, but his substitution appeared entirely tactical as the Frenchman showed no sign of injury.

With the second-half underway, Mbappe walked out, having changed into a tracksuit, and was seen on his phone waving at the crowd. He wasn’t limping and had no ice on his leg, suggesting that an injury was not the reason for his withdrawal.

Furthermore, Mbappe watched the second-half in the stands with his mother - rather than with his team-mates on the bench - taking selfies with fans on his way to his seat.

Luis Enrique also substituted Mbappe during PSG’s most recent match against Stade Rennais too, stating after the game: “Sooner or later, we have to get used to playing without Kylian Mbappe.”

The PSG legend has informed the club that he will not be signing a new contract and he is expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.

Kylian Mbappe’s PSG career almost over

Mbappe’s substitution against Monaco followed his withdrawal versus Rennes last Sunday.

The most interesting part about both substitutions is the fact that PSG weren't winning on either occasion. They were 1-0 down when Mbappe left the field against Rennes, before Ramos scored a last-minute equaliser, while the Parisians drew 0-0 versus Monaco.

The match against Rennes was the first time that Mbappe had been substituted after starting a Ligue 1 match since he picked up a hamstring injury against Montpellier on 1 February 2023, while his most recent non-injury related Ligue 1 substitution had come in November 2022.

However, it has now happened twice inside a week, as Mbappe’s PSG career draws to an underwhelming close.
