Mbappe and PSG locked in bitter €80m WAR as Real Madrid signing looms
Kylian Mbappe’s exit from PSG is not going smoothly, with the Ligue 1 champions holding €80 million owed to the future Real Madrid star, according to reports from France.
A feud is ongoing between Mbappe and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is furious that the forward will leave the club on a free transfer when his deal with the Parc des Princes side expires at the end of June. The World Cup winner had famously promised he would not leave the club in such a manner.
The 25-year-old’s future destination is Real Madrid, which has angered Al-Khelaifi further given his tempestuous relationship with Los Blancos president Florentino Perez. This feud has polluted his relationship with Mbappe.

L’Equipe explains: “There was no question of Real Madrid releasing a single euro to PSG for a player who is free. This was not to the taste of Al-Khelaifi, who harbours a deep dislike of Perez.”
The PSG president’s response to the news that Mbappe would not extend his contract with the club, which he received in the spring, was to “sometimes fly into a rage”.
Mbappe would subsequently play 90 minutes in only 11 of PSG’s last 21 games of the season, but he was also hit in the pocket.
“The Parc des Princes side ‘forgot’ to pay the player his April salary in addition to a bonus which was planned for February, which corresponds, according to a source close to PSG, to a saving of €80m,” L’Equipe states.

Why did PSG not pay Mbappe?
The Ligue 1 side believe that they are in the right because of a promise the attacker, who scored 44 goals in 48 games last season, made last summer that he would forgo his loyalty bonus if he were to leave the club.
Mbappe is trying to distance himself from the problem in order to focus on Euro 2024, the report indicates, but his lawyers are locked in talks with those from PSG trying to resolve the impasse.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear when Mbappe’s arrival at Real Madrid will be announced, with the likelihood being that it will be next week following the Champions League final but before Euro 2024.
