RC Strasbourg have smashed the Swedish transfer record to secure the services of Sebastian Nanasi.

The 22-year-old winger has played for Malmo since 2020, bar two spells out on loan, and currently has 20 goals in his last 55 appearances for the Swedish giants, with whom he has twice won the Allsvenskan (in 2021 and 2023).

Nanasi, who is of Hungarian heritage and was crowned as 2023's Swedish player of the year, will join Strasbourg for €11m this summer, which is a Swedish record. The Ligue 1 side beat "many clubs" to the signature of Nanasi, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Strasbourg fans will be excited at the potential Nanasi will bring to the team. Although if the recent example of Manchester City's Savinho is any indication, if Nanasi ends up fulfilling his potential and improving then he'll more than likely be transferred to Chelsea. There he may be able to prove if he can be the "different kind of winger" that Enzo Maresca likes.

BlueCo is the colour

If the name RC Strasbourg sounds familiar that's because it's Arsene Wenger's hometown club and the place where he took his first steps as a coach, first acting as a scout for the club and then managing Strasbourg's youth and reserve team.

Nowadays the club are actually linked to a different London club: Chelsea. They are owned by BlueCo, the same consortium that - funded by Todd Boehly's Clearlake Capital - bought Chelsea in 2022 after Roman Abramovich was forced to sell.

Boehly has set about establishing a multi-club model and is using BlueCo to make Strasbourg the first step. They bought the club in June 2023 and since then Strasbourg have gone on a spending spree.

Five of the clubs' six most expensive signings ever were made in the year since BlueCo brought them, and Nanasi's arrival will make it six of seven - albeit he won't break their record signing of €20m for Abakar Sylla made last year.
