Manchester United continue to find themselves in a state of limbo with PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte and are increasingly scouring the transfer market for other alternatives to the Uruguay star.

Although Ugarte wants to move to Man Utd, the Red Devils have been unable to agree terms of a transfer with the Ligue 1 club. PSG are adamant that they do not need to sell and want around €60 million for the combative midfielder.

While two bids have been made by Erik ten Hag’s side, the loftiest of these is believed to have been around €35m.

This stance has led the Old Trafford side to look at alternatives. Sander Berge of Burnley was exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers, in conjunction with The Transfers Podcast, to be one of these, and while the hype around this transfer has built, it is still in its relative infancy.

GiveMeSport reports that another alternative for United has emerged in Serie A via Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

Talks were held over a potential deal as far back as March, it is claimed.

Europa League star

Ederson’s performance in the Europa League for Atalanta saw him catch the attention of several clubs late last season. Among the teams who followed him were Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus, but Liverpool also had a strong interest and were said by Tuttosport to be “shocked” by his displays.

With Man Utd ready to walk away from the Ugarte discussions, the Brazilian is a name very much on their radar.

One complicating factor for Man Utd in this deal is the future of Casemiro.

It had been thought he would leave for the Saudi Pro League, but interest is said to have cooled after he was slow to give the green light to a deal.

With his pre-season form unconvincing, finding a buyer for the veteran Brazil star, who is on a sizeable wage, promises to be difficult.
