Fulham move collapsed as player 'cried' during medical

Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah cried during his Fulham medical on Deadline Day as he did not want to leave his side Lyon, according to reports in France.

The winger was part of a tussle between the Cottagers and Everton. L'Eqiupe reported that he even disappeared without telling anyone during his medical as Lyon owner John Textor was pressuring Nuamah to move.

Nuamah's potential move to Fulham fell through late on Transfer Deadline Day. The Ghanaian winger rejected a move to Goodison Park and it looked like he would be heading to Fulham.

But Fulham shifted their focus to Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson instead, who they brought in on loan, leaving Nuamah to remain at Lyon.

Foot Mercato had reported Nuamah had agreed to terms with Everton but then Fulham went on to bring the player in. But both moves ultimately collapsed and Nuamah stayed put in Ligue 1.

Textor pushes move from Lyon

It was believed that the move was reportedly driven by Textor, who had suggested Nuamah as a target during his ongoing efforts to purchase Everton from current owner Farhad Moshiri.

However, after the move fell through, Textor reportedly sent a letter of apology to Nuamah.

Everton were among several clubs linked with a move for the 12-cap Ghanaian international in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

The Toffees had already signed Jake O’Brien for €20 million before completing a deadline-day loan for Orel Mangala from a Ligue 1 club.

Sean Dyche’s side were also linked with Nuamah on the final day of the transfer window, with Lyon open to a sale in an effort to comply with French financial regulations, though they ended up keeping him.
