Mason Greenwood accused of ‘INDECENCY’ after Marseille lose to PSG
Marseille attacker Mason Greenwood has been destroyed by the French media following Marseille’s 3-0 defeat to PSG in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
The game had been billed as a major test of PSG’s title credentials as they went into the Stade Velodrome clash only three points clear of their hosts and level on points with Monaco, who had lost to Nice earlier in the day.
It turned into a rout, with Greenwood, signed in the summer after charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped by the UK authorities, culpable of a feeble performance that saw him shirk his responsibilities as one of OM’s key figures.
L’Equipe did not hesitate to slam the England international, giving him a rating of 1/10 and offering a devastating analysis of his performance.
It said: “Roberto De Zerbi waited until half-time to take him off, and that was already too long, as his lack of involvement bordered on indecency. Without the ball, he loses interest in everything, like his little trot on the opening goal, and especially this catastrophic pass at the origin of the third goal. A fiasco.”
Greenwood was also responsible for Michael Murillo’s troubles at right-back.
“He was too often abandoned by Greenwood, who was disinterested in defending,” it added.
Greenwood’s Marseille troubles mount
Greenwood, 23, had made a promising start to his career at Marseille yet after scoring five times in the first three matches of the season, he has gone quiet.
The former Manchester United winger, who was signed for just €26 million in the summer in light of the allegations made against him, which he strenuously denied, has scored only one in his last six.
Greenwood’s outing against PSG was the first time this season he has been replaced before 78 minutes while it was also the first time he had played a Marseille match and failed to get a shot of any kind away.
