Juventus are the latest club to be linked with a move for in-demand Bayern Munich star David Alaba.

The Austrian’s contract in Bavaria is set to expire at the end of the season and talks over an extension are believed to have broken down.

Consequently, he will be available on a free transfer next summer, a fact that could lead to Bayern considering a cut-price sale in January.

Juve are among the clubs keeping tabs on the situation but, were they to sign Alaba, where would he feature?

We take a look at the options available to the Italian champions.

Alaba has been forced to surrender his original and preferred position at Bayern following the emergence of Alphonso Davies.

But it is possible he could secure a return to that role with a move to the reigning Serie A champions.

This season, Andrea Pirlo has opted for the right-footed Danilo whenever he has gone with four at the back, and may prefer to seek a more natural fit on that flank.

    Alaba could be that man.

    Centre-back

Juve are well stocked in the centre-back department but their regular use of a 3-5-2 system means they could always do with options.

Alaba would certainly be one of them, having adapted to that role with aplomb in recent seasons in Bavaria.

The left-hand side of that aforementioned back three looks like a particularly good fit.

    Central midfield

Alaba is also more than capable of featuring in midfield, where his running power and passing range are just as useful.

Here, the Austria international would have to compete with the likes of Arthur, Adrien Rabiot and Rodrigo Bentancur for a start.

But, as ever, you would back him to stake a strong claim.

    Conclusion

Of course the most likely scenario is that Juventus haven’t planned to bring in Alaba for one role alone.

Instead, a club renowned for picking up smart free transfers will probably look to make full use of his versatility should they convince him to join up.

However, with a lengthy queue of potential suitors forming, that might prove easier said than done.
