West Brom complete capture of striker Diagne on loan from Galatasaray
West Brom have signed Senegal striker Mbaye Diagne on loan from Galatasaray as they seek to blaze a trail to Premier League safety.
Sam Allardyce’s side sit second from bottom of the Premier League on 11 points, seven from safety with just 18 matches to play.
Moreover, WBA have scored only 15 goals in 20 matches – a rate of just 0.75 per game.
If they are to move themselves towards safety, they need to start finding the net and the responsibility for that will fall upon Diagne’s shoulders.
Luke Dowling, the sporting and technical direct of the club, said: “He comes to us with some goals under his belt and naturally we hope he can continue his good form with us.
“Scoring goals is the most difficult part of the game but we feel he will come with confidence and we hope that will rub off on the squad.
“Signing players in January is all about hitting the ground running. We hope Mbaye can do that as quickly as possible with games coming thick and fast.
“I think he’s a player our supporters will enjoy watching and I hope he can score the goals we need to help us win more games.
“The biggest thing for us is that he really wanted to come which is massively important to us in the position we find ourselves.”
Diagne was previously on the books of Juventus but failed to play a league match for the Serie A club and has a much-travelled career since then.
He has been prolific at the likes of Ujpest in Hungary, Tainjin in China and in Turkey with both Kasimpasa and Galatasaray.
Now Allardyce and his WBA side will hope 29-year-old Senegal forward Diagne can continue that trend in the Premier League.
