Move over, Messi! Andre Silva is Europe’s highest scorer in 2021
Andre Silva scored yet again on Sunday, meaning that no player in Europe’s top-five leagues has more goals in 2021 than the Eintracht Frankfurt forward.
The Portuguese star dinked the ball beautifully over the goalkeeper to open the scoring in Frankfurt’s 2-0 win over Cologne.
That goal means that Andre Silva now has nine goals in 2021.
In Europe’s big-five leagues, no one has scored more this calendar year.
Ilkay Gundogan of Manchester City also has nine strikes to his name in 2021, while Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Atletico Madrid’s Luis Suarez and Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri all have eight.
It is an incredible transformation from Andre Silva as his career had really hit a roadblock at AC Milan.
He struggled badly after moving to San Siro from Porto for €38 million, scoring just two Serie A goals in 24 games in the 2017-18 season.
Silva fared a little better at Sevilla on loan the following campaign with 11 goals in all competitions.
But it is since moving to Germany on a two-year loan deal – with Ante Rebic heading the other way to Milan – that he has really exploded.
He scored 16 goals in 37 games last season for Frankfurt, while this term he has 19 in just 22 appearances.
Only Robert Lewandowski has more goals in Europe’s big-five leagues in 2020/21.
Silva’s form has resulted in Frankfurt making his transfer permanent – and the 25-year-old is proving to be a sensational signing.
