Draxler joined PSG in 2017 from Wolfsburg but had widely been expected to depart the club on a free transfer in the summer.

However, his fortunes turned following Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as head coach, and he is committed to the club until 2024.

Draxler has played 172 games for the Ligue 1 side, scoring 24 goals and laying on a further 39.

Despite this contribution, it had been suggested he would depart the club in the summer, with Bayern Munich having reportedly enquired over his services. There was also significant interest from Serie A.

Speaking to PSG’s official website, he said: “It’s a huge source of pride for me, I love this club and Paris as a city. It’s great to be able to play with top players, and for a team like this one. I am very happy to have extended my contract here.

“The club’s ambitions have become a reality. We played in the semi-final of the Champions League this season and in the final last season. We have progressed a lot, and even though we have been through highs and lows, the project is a very attractive one and I am happy to be able to continue here.”
